Senses sharpen when diving at night and nocturnal marine life emerges |
The vibrant underwater world of Egypt's Red Sea
coast looks very different once the Sun goes down
and nocturnal marine life emerges from daytime
nooks and crannies. Diving at night requires a
period of adjustment so eyes become accustomed
to the shadows and senses sharpen, guided by
strobe-illuminated marker buoys and chemical light
sticks. Crimsons, yellows and oranges in particular
appear more intense against the darkness.
From Wadi Lahami over so different offshore dive
sites can be reached. Dive into translucent depths
rich in swim-troughs, tunnels, arches, caves and
caverns. Octopi unravel in space-like slow-motion
and groups of twinkling minute organisms add
fairy-dust to the sea. Many species of crustaceans
and mollusks use the night hours to feed - as do
their predators - out it pays not to he overly-scared
of what might be lurking beyond the dive light's
beam. Just point it in an interesting looking area
and take the time to examine it inch-by-inch whilst
revealing in the increased activity on the reefs in the
night-time glow.
