A harvest-time Indian involving flames,reflection and prayers
14th January

Sankranthi signifies the onsets of harvest and is an important festival within India's many farming communities. Denoting the transition of the sun into Capricorn on its celestial path, Sankranthi is an auspicious celebration that takes many forms throughout India, depending on the community's focus. However, every celebration honours, worships and pays respect to Saraswati Maa( Goddess of Knowledge during a period of reflection in which aspirants assess their goals in life. Pre-harvest ritual Bhogi is the time when people de-clutter their homes. Unwanted items are discarded and accumulated junk is burned. When Sankranti arrives, departed ancestors are remembered with candies distributed to friends and family - and everyone wear new clothes to pray to their favourite God.
