| Dive in gin-clear, pristine water in Los Roques Archipelago National Park |
3rd Januray
Hundreds of kilometres of Caribbean coastline provide Venezuela's prime diving spot with the palm-scattered Los Roques Archipelago National Park. Created in 1972, the 221 hectare ( 246 acre) park is located around 128 km (80 miles) from Caracas and contains one of the region's best-preserved barrier reefs. Shallow lagoons, thick mangrove forests and 350 islands and atolls lay in waters that offer exceptional visibility in January-February at up to 20 km (66 ft). To dive Los Roques is to experience a kaleidoscope of tropical fish and sponges with barracudas, snapper and grouper together with lurking stingrays on the sandy bottom.
