Processione Dei Serpari- Cocullo, Italy (Europe)
A Lively Celebration of all things snake-like

Got a Snake phobia? Then give the Feast Day of San Domenico in Cocullo a miss - unless confronting your fears is part of your therapy. On the host Thursday in May, hundreds of snakes are caught in the woods and carried back in sacks to the charming white- stone village, transforming its streets into a Writhing mass of snakes. The Serpari (a clan of snake handlers unique to Cocullo) remove the fangs and drape the snakes around their necks while a feast Celebrates this event with snake-shaped sweets, biscuits and breads.
